Applying Architecture to Business Transformation and Decision-Making: Case Aalto University

This chapter was originally published in Business and Dynamic Change

Patrik Maltusch, Aalto University and Virpi Nieminen, QPR Software, Finland

Authors Maltusch and Nieminen applied architecture concepts to combine/merge/consolidate three universities. The motive for the change was externally driven by government legislation. This transformation would not have been possible without the transparency brought by EA, which paved the way to breaking old organizational boundaries. Synergies were created in the form of new shared service centers and common IT assets to best serve the new unified university structure – and above all, to bring Aalto University one step closer to its vision.
