Leveraging Architecture Federation to Increase the Value and Use of Architecture

This chapter was originally published in Business and Dynamic Change

David Rice, EA Frameworks, LLC, USA

Mr. Rice brings to us his experience in very large organizations and provides an architectural perspective of governance and architecture management that uses architecture federation. He explains how this is done through ‘a federation of independently managed, heterogeneous architectures (hereafter referred to as “component architectures”). He maintains that a standard taxonomy and organizing the architectures into tiers brings order to the architecture material. Organizing the architectures in terms of components and tiers with a standard taxonomy provides the enterprise with a means of contrasting the federated architectures in terms of differences and similarities. This gives the architect and management insight into where to combine things or keep them separate.
